Development of Character

At New Silksworth Academy, we are dedicated to building children’s character so that they become a successful member of society. We do this through the explicit teaching of our learning behaviours within school. They are #WeAreResilient, #WeAreCurious, #WeAreCollaborative, #WeAreCreative, #WeAreInspiring, #WeAreAmbitious, #WeAreCompassionate.

Within lessons, children are taught to apply these skills and are introduced to famous people who have shown these behaviours throughout history. They are also taught explicitly in reading for pleasure sessions from Nursery to Year 6. As a class we will read a text that focuses on a particular behaviour. Together the children reflect on the way a character has behaved and the skills they have used.

Each Friday, the children attend a celebration assembly where children are rewarded for showing a specific behaviour in school. The children record their success in their learning journal and certificates are sent home to share their success with their family.
